I just got through reading the feedback sheets that youth workers and students submitted at Merge. Wow.I am humbled and encouraged by how so many people responded to God through his story. It is such a privilege to be a part of Merge and to inspire so many people to find themselves in a greater story!!DOWLOAD a page of responses by clicking here! Here is one of my favorite quotes from a student at Merge (it rocked my world): “I began to see the context of my life within God’s story. The Bible’s not distant anymore. It’s like – whoa! – my life has merged with God’s story. I’m part of what He’s doing, I’m a Kingdom participant and builder. I realize that community is the most important thing I could give my life to. That’s what its all about – a bunch of people getting together to live collectively and individually the life Jesus came to show us.”– Natalie Thanks for all of you who trusted us with your time and resources to be a part of Merge.– Michael

On Tuesday each group walked through a replica of the Tabernacle—the place of worship established by God in the Old Testament.
Every step was filled with symbolism and really made me realize that God truly is the author of an amazing story. It’s an amazing story not only because of its message of redemption and restoration, but because of the way God carried out his plan.

I’ve always loved symbolism in literature, so seeing the symbolism in God’s story through the Tabernacle experience was very meaningful to me.
Christ’s death on the cross means even more after learning about God’s former requirements of animal sacrifice at the Brazen altar. The tearing of the curtain at Christ’s death finally made sense—it was the veil surrounding the Holy of Holies, and the tear showed that God’s presence was no longer confined to that space, that he now dwells with all people.

God’s vast love for humankind is becoming more and more apparent to me as I see how intricately he has planned for the restoration of the world. I’m drawn in to his love and I’m excited to know him more…

Tabernacle means “place of dwelling,” and in the Old Testament it was a place where God and the Israelites came together to meet one another. This is where the Israelites offered sacrifices and worshipped God. Each aspect of the Tabernacle offers unique symbolism of God’s relationship with humankind. Below are just a few examples…
The Israelites brought their sacrifices to God at the Brazen Altar, and through this practice, God emphasized his hatred for sin but also demonstrated his great grace.
The Laver, a bronze water basin, stood in the Courtyard of the Tabernacle, and reminded the Israelites that they needed to be clean before approaching God.
The Menorah, held in the large outer room known as the Holy Place, is said to be a symbol of the nation of Israel and its mission to be a light to the world.
You may see parallels between these aspects of the Tabernacle and the Christian life, and isn’t it exciting? God’s truth and his ways have been consistent throughout generations, and exploring ancient traditions like the Tabernacle help us grow in our understanding and appreciation of God’s great plan for humankind.
We are really excited about giving students the opportunity to walk through a replica of the Tabernacle this summer at Merge—to take time to reflect on our relationship to God and learn more about his character. You can also purchase a great resource on our website called, Experiencing the Tabernacle.

Today in our Sonlife staff meeting Chris Folmsbee—our President—led us in a time of reflection on the symbol of the Table throughout the Bible. Check out some of these verses where God uses a table as the symbol of his provision for us: Psalm 23:5, Malachi 1:6-7, I Corinthians 10:21, Psalm 78:15-20.
Our God is a loving Father who gives us all that we need. It’s easy to see all that we don’t have—the clothes we’d like, better grades, friends who are more fun, a family that we actually like. How often to I feel restless or dissatisfied, wishing I had more? Even, dare I say, thinking I deserve more?
When we come to that point, we have to pause and remember what we really deserve. Picture Christ on the cross…getting what I deserve…and I go on to live with (compared to his suffering) little discomfort. How often do we recognize how richly we have been blessed? How often do I thank him for all that he has given me?
Take a moment right now to reflect on how good God has been to you. As you go through this day, remember his provision and let it fill your heart with joy and peace. You serve a great and powerful God who is full of lovingkindness!
